Special Techniques

Glimmer Mist applied to pattered paper and lace cardstock with brayer.

Use a Craftmat to protect your work are. Layout your lace cardstock and spray Glimmer Mist lightly, then spread out with a brayer. Heat set to speed up drying time.

Spray glimmer mist around the edge of your patterned paper - use heat gun to speed up drying time.

Chipboard title painted with crackle paint, heat set and sprayed with glimmer mist

Paint a generous coat of crackle paint on your chipboard, the thicker you coat the chipboard the more crackly you will get. Optional - you may want to start with a base coat of paint before applying your crackle. Allow to air dry.

Once your chipboard is completely dry apply a coat of Glimmer Mist for a sparkly touch.

Here's a close up of the finished chipboard.

Pinwheel brads altered with alcohol ink and use to attach fibers directly to photo

The pinwheel brads where too shiny for this project. So I used alcohol ink to change the color.

Use a dabber to apply the ink directly to your metal embellishments. Allow to air dry or use a heat gun to speed up the process.

Assemble the pieces and you are done!

New Digital Program

There's a cool digital scrapbooking program called SCRAPBOOK MAX. I just started playing around with it and I have to say from a NON-Digital Scrappers point of view - it is really easy to use!!!

Not only is it easy, but it's FUN! The program comes loaded with a boat load of templates, page elements and fonts and whatever else you need to get on the digital bandwagon.

I am going to play with it a little more and then write up a full review - I just couldn't wait to at least tell you about it. Feel free to contact me for more info in the meantime.

Getting a jump on the holidays...

SCRAP THIS IDEA....

I spent some time scrapping today and had some fun with with my line of Clearly Creative Acrylic Albums in the new Round shape. Check out this Holiday Ornament I made featuring my daughter Jessica. Photo taken by Tina Nitz photography.
INSTRUCTIONS:

To create this project I use Adirondak "snowcap" Dabber around the edges - kinda looks like snow.
The scallop paper is not a scrapbook product, it's an invitation from a cute store called Swoozies. I doodled the edges with a Sukura white pen, added rub-ons. The photo is attached to the scalloped paper.
On top of the acrylic I added the Me and My Big Ideas Bling, and Felt Fusion. Because my albums are real ACRYLIC, not just clear plastic, they do not bend - these embellishments will not fall off and even when handled this ornament will not bend.
The finishing touches are May Art Ribbon to create a loop to hang the ornament and another decorative piece at the bottom.
This is a very quick and easy project. Perfect for family gifts and keepsakes!

Live from my Scrapbook Room

NEWS FLASH - I have actually created first
"for fun" layout in my new Scrap Studio...

I broke out the new Cricut too - LOVE IT!!!!

The chipboard is Magistical Memories - Fabulous, I used a base coat of white acrylic paint then added yellow, orange and pink, and finished up by hand doodling. Love how it looks like the chipboard sparkles.

FINALLY - things are settling down in the new house and
I have somehow managed to bring some order to my new
Scrapbook Studio...here are a few photos.

The large shelves are from IKEA - they hold TONS of stuff. I have one to house my supplies of my on-line store www.Scrapbook-Oasis.com and the other is by my desk and hold all of my photo printing supplies and office stuff.

There are three art tables, purchased from Target.
They are pretty much a knock off of the
Pottery Barn art tables, exact same design and
dimensions, 1/3 the price!

The cubes are by Making Memories, and are left over
from my old studio - which was obviously white
- soooo they don't match but I am to overwhelmed to deal with replacing them now.

I am far from done, but the room is at least functional
and I can really enjoy my new space!

Blog Impaired....A Store is born

I am SO BLOG IMPAIRED....what's wrong with me?? I have tons to say... just no time to get over here and share it with you. And on the RARE occasion that I DO HAVE ONE SINGLE MOMENT - well that's about the only time I have nothing to say!!

So I hereby vow to be a better blogger!!

General Updates:

The new house is just as fabulous (my favorite word lately). I love everything about it. We have the most awesome neighbors, how cool is that?

My Scrapbook Studio is coming along nicely. If I had not decided to launch a webstore this month - I would probably have been done decorating by now.

Webstore - yep that is what I said. This really happened by accident. And how exactly does a webstore happen by accident? Wellllll, it went down like this. We just hosted our 3rd, and largest Scrapbook Vacation Club Event in Daytona Beach, which was the most amazing - more about that later. Anyway, we had a title sponsor, who due to unforeseen circumstances, had to back out. HOLY COW!! We were kinda in a lurch, having no title sponsor at 66 hour crop event. Yeah the chances of us making out of there alive were slim to none.

Soooo, we pooled our resources, rolled up our sleeves and built our own Scrapbook Oasis Vendor booth. It was a lot to take on, 'cause remember we were already hosting our largest event at a new venue, teaching classes and NOW adding this endeavor.

Well at the end of the event it all really worked out. Left exhausted and having scrapped nothing, we were satisfied with how all of the efforts paid off. HUGE thanks to all of staff and volunteers who really made it come together.

So, then we roll back into town. Gosh my Suburban was not quite as full as it was when we rolled out, but there was still a lot of merchandise to contend with. Not to mention we ordered tons so of stuff that did not arrive in time to take to the event. GASP!! Now WHAT???

Well, that is how the Scrapbook Oasis Store was born. The advantage of having an established website that already catered to our Scrapbook Vacation Club clients, obviously is a huge advantage, so we have worked hard to enter that masses of inventory on hand - that may take forever.

But hey we have a pretty good start here so please check it out!!! www.Scrapbook-Oasis.com

Woohoo!

SCRAPBOOK VACATION CLUB ~ WHAT TO EXPECT:

What to pack!
You can't bring it all unfortunately! Have a good idea about what you are going to work on. Theme related albums like Disney, cruises, or recitals are easier to plan for since all your layouts will relate to a particular theme.
1. Table cloths will be on all scrapping tables so if you want a smoother surface to scrap on, we suggest you purchase a cutting mat or a sheet of heavy art board (sold in craft stores). This will provide you with a smooth, flat surface and it will help delineate your scrap space from your neighbor's scrap space.

2. One of the newest trends is to bring the 12x12 stacking Sterilite drawers or table top shelves for the back of your table space. Not only will you gain more space, but you will have all your supplies readily accessible.

3. Bring your favorite snacks to share! SVC will be providing light snacks and beverages in the crop room but you may want to bring your favs because you never know when someone's going to take that last bag of peanut M&M's!

4. A Tag-along (or similar type of drink holder) is a must. There are NO open drinks permitted at the tables, so you need a place to put your drink. If you use a Tag-a-long, your trash bag, tools and drink can be hung off the table beside you and remain handy. NOTE: A Tag-along is a metal holder that attaches to the side of the table to hold your covered drink container.

5. Don't forget to use your under the table space to store things. Aisle space is at a premium and there is plenty of room under the table. Get used to the idea that you may not be able to have your XXL right next to you open during the event. Due to Fire Code, aisles MUST remain clear at ALL times. We have a no tolerance policy regarding borrowing tools or supplies from other croppers without permission. If that person is not in the room, please wait until they return and ask them personally.

6. Make sure you dress in layers. Crop room temps vary, and you could be chilly in the evening and warm during the day. Don't forget, The Plaza is located right on the beach so throw in beach attire but remember, nights can be a little cool on the water.
7. Run a tab with the vendors ~ please!!! It is easier on the vendors and more convenient for you if you run a tab. If you want to keep track of your purchases, ask the vendor for a copy of their tab sheet and track what you've picked up at your seat.

8. Come prepared to shop. There are always things you must have, as well as items you run short on. Don't worry, our vendors carry a wide variety of products.

9. Bring your basic toolkit, plus any extras you need for your PRE-PLANNED pages. You do NOT need to bring every piece of cardstock you own. You will forget something, don't worry, if our vendors don't have it, I'm sure another scrapper will. Be prepared to hear us over the microphone announcing a scrapper in need.

10. Take advantage of your "ME" time. You can scrap all you want but don't forget to learn some new techniques in one of the many classes being taught at SVC. And, don't forget to pamper yourself at the spa located in the hotel. REMEMBER ~ It's ALL about YOU!!!

11. Bring Ziploc bags in a variety of sizes. If you bring the 2 gallon size they will be big enough to accommodate 12x12 paper, and you can make one for each class you are planning to attend. You can accumulate completed pages in one also, for transfer to your album when you get home. Take a lot of these, cause you will use them a lot!!

12. We will have a journaling station available in the crop room. You must bring your own paper, cardstock, vellum or transparencies to print on. There will also be a 4x6 photo printer in the room. You will be able to print photos from your own media card at the event for a small fee.

13. To avoid music drama, we have a collection of popular music from the 80's, 90's and current artists. The music will be played throughout the event in the crop room. Please bring your own personal listening device with headphones if you prefer alternate music.

14. Other items that you might want to bring: Business cards or address labels, you are going to make lots of new friends, your camera (especially for photos of layouts you want to scraplift later), a small pack of baby wipes, lotion, Tylenol, Band-Aids, Sharpie permanent marker to put your name on all the new stuff you buy, (of course, you have already labeled your equipment that you already own!). After 66 hours of cropping, items can easily be misplaced. Be sure to label all of your scrapbook supplies so they do not get lost. SVC is not responsible for lost items.

15. When preparing for classes, be sure to print the Class Supply List (available on our website). We recommend using large Ziploc bags to sort out the supplies and label each with the class name, date, and time. Check the bulletin board in the crop room to find the location of the class. If you have any questions about the class prior to the event, please post a message on the discussion board.

15. Absolutely NO HAMMERS and NO SPRAY ADHESIVE. If you don't have a Crop-a-Dile or Silent Setter, someone will be glad to loan you theirs. Also, out of concern for our asthmatic attendees, please NO spray adhesives.

Let's have some FUN and get SCRAPPY!

Donna Downey...

Well it's all over, and it was a blast. On Friday Donna hosted the crop and did a book signing. She is completely full of it. We have an absolute blast!!

On Saturday we got to the store at 10am and settle in for 12 hours of classes. There were 4 classes in all, with about an hour between each - a little less if the class ran over. We learned so much and had so much fun.

The classes were amazingly creative, I just loved them all! If you ever have a chance to meet her or take her classes - DO IT. And maybe you too can find out about her friend - Mr. Drill and why it will never be made IN PINK!! I have never seen a group of ladies blush so much while laughing so hard!

Here are some photos....

Breaking Ground

Here are some photos of our new house-to-be. We are so excited - though this process comes with so much stress

The best part is that the kids are old enough to appreciate what is happening. They can actually watch their new house being built.

9 days until my Scrapbook Vacation!!!!

I cannot believe there are only nine more days until I am on VACATION!!!! Scrapbook vacation that is!!!

The Scrapbook Vacation Club Team and I have be so busy putting together the final details for the event. We have incredible prize packs to give away, tons of games and an endless supply of HOOPLA to share!!!

I didn't bother page planning for myself - this is a working vacation afterall - so I don't really expect to get any scrapping done. If time permits I will throw together a few page kits....JUST IN CASE!!!!!!

Happy Easter!

We had a great Easter!

The kids actually slept in until about 8am!!! That has never happened before, they are usually up at 5am!!!

I had hidden the Easter baskets the night before and it did not take them long to find them. We had coffee cake and goofed off most of the morning. After it warmed up, we headed out to our favorite park for a few hours. We finished of the evening with a wonderful meal.

So our holiday was very low key and very nice.

New Blog Here

I don't know what happened to my old blog - but it has failed me! So let's try this again!!
